“The mind’s first step to self-awareness must be through the body.” ― George Sheehan
Sensory Awareness
The way you perceive, distinguish, and focus on the world around you.
- It helps you rediscover your instincts, authenticity, and vitality by becoming aware of your bodies experience.
- It serves as a gateway into yourself and a deeper connection with the world around you.
Let’s explore a few reasons why we may be disconnected from our sensory awareness in the first place.
- Experiencing trauma can lead to dissociation or disconnection from bodily sensations as a coping mechanism to protect oneself from overwhelming emotions or physical pain.
- Societal norms or cultural beliefs discouraging individuals from paying attention to their bodily experiences.
- Living in a fast-paced and demanding environment makes it difficult for individuals to slow down and tune into their body.
- Suppression of emotions as a way of coping with difficult situations, resulting in a disconnection from the bodily sensations associated with those emotions.
Sensory Muscle
Like any other muscle, it grows the more you use it.
